TIFTON, Ga. (July 12, 2019) – All 56 residents are safe following an early Friday morning room fire at Legacy Village of Tifton.
“At around 5:30 this morning, alarms and sprinklers were triggered in our facility due to a small fire that started and was contained to a resident’s room. The caregiving staff responded immediately – making sure every resident was accounted for, following all proper evacuation procedures, and assisting everyone in safely exiting the area,” said Janie Whitley, executive director.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the damage was limited to the memory care unit where the fire began.
“All residents have been comfortably displaced to the lobby and dining room areas, where our nursing and chaplain teams are monitoring each one’s physical and emotional condition,” Whitley said.
“We’re already in the process of contacting all residents’ families. Family members may contact our main phone number, (229) 386-2273, which we are answering 24/7. We are so grateful to the Tifton Fire Department and Tift County Ambulance Service for their quick response. And we are so proud of our caregiving team for the professional way they handled the safety of every resident,” Whitley said.
